LAYING
The CO type is stable when laid.
The CG and CR types need to be shored with timber during laying.
They are laid on a mortar course containing an adhesive product.
Lay the corner or end blocks first, level and properly aligned, to use as reference points for the cornice as whole. Fix a line to the outer edge of the blocks use as a guide for the intermediate cornice blocks.
The block are laid edge to edge. Cover the end of each block with jointing mortar to form a continuous joint, and press the next block firmly into place to compress the joint.
Put the steel reinforcing rods in place, and pour the concrete tie.
The polystyrene formwork in the CG cornice is removed after the concrete tie has been poured, to leave room for the concealed guttering.
CO type cornice with joints can be pointed after laying to give them traditional aspect.
After the mortar has become dry, just scrap off the excess of mortar with the edge of a pointing trowel. To prevent staining the products, never use a sponge to clean off the excess of mortar. |
