This type of string course is usually laid as an exterior element of floors, but it can also be laid in structural walls at any level. The elements are laid edge to edge on a mortar course. They are stable, but we recommend that you shore them with timber during laying for ease of alignment and to hold them in place while the mortar hardens.
In all cases the elements must be tied to floor or wall ties using 6mm dia. steel reinforcing rods set into the housings of each element.
Special elements are available for particular situations, such as corner and re-entrant corner elements, and end elements for pediments. |
