Pillars and claddings : laying instructions

Weser blocks for pillars are carefully designed to interlock for easier laying without jointing. Their hollow core must be filled with concrete. Claddings are glued on traditional masonry surrounding walls.

1
Lay the blocks on frost-protected foundations, about 40cm deep for the pillars and 25cm deep for the walls, and 10cm wider than the blocks.

Pour the foundations and place four 8 or 10mm diameter steel rods to stabilize the pillars.

2
Once the foundation has hardened, lay the first block and set level.
Lay the following blocks. Stagger the vertical joints.

Before filling, the elements must be internally lined with polystyrene or similar to act as a soft medium and to prevent the effect of differences of dilatation

Fill with a lean concrete mix in 75cm (one bucketful of cement for five bucketfuls of sand and gravel). Tamp with a stick. Wait for a few hours between layers.

Claddings must be glued on a clean masonry wall with Weser Mix-CO fixing mortar. Double gluing is necessary (5kg per sq.m)
3
Cover with copings and caps to protect the wall and pillars. They are to be laid on a bed of mortar.
